Call from Consumer Affairs Victoria.
Victorians can now have their say on the state’s real estate industry in the current Consumer Affairs Victoria Property Market Review, to ensure current consumer laws are best supporting fair and easy access to the Victorian housing market.
The Victorian Government’s review of property laws is seeking community input on whether consumer laws on underquoting, off-the-plan sales, and estate agent conduct are fit for purpose and fair for all Victorians. Community input closes on 1st April 2022.
Consumer Affairs Victoria has appointed an expert review panel to conduct the review and manage the public consultation process.
In particular, the review will examine the adequacy of the reforms that were introduced in 2016 to the Estate Agents Act that addressed underquoting within the property market, and whether these reforms need to be enhanced in light of the post-covid and current market conditions.
The public will be able to participate in a range of ways, including online submissions and forums, giving everyone the opportunity to share their own experiences and perspectives.
Stakeholders will also be given a range of methods to contribute, through targeted interviews, workshops, and small group consultations.
The Property Market Review and public consultation will be conducted by an expert panel consisting of consumer advocate, Carolyn Bond AO, and former CEO of the Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV), Enzo Raimondo.
The panel will also explore whether further reform is required to ensure real estate agents and real estate agents’ representatives have the expertise, skills, and education they need to maintain ongoing good practice within the real estate industry.
