BUYING DURING LOCKDOWN: CAN I INSPECT A HOUSE DURING COVID-19?
Since the Andrews Governments announcement effective as at 11.59pm on Wednesday 27th October 2020 for Metropolitan Melbourne with further changes as at 11.59pm on Sunday November 8th 2020, many prospective buyers and tenants are wondering 'can I inspect a house when buying in Melbourne'?
The answer is yes. Pre-arranged private inspections of residential and commercial property for sale and property for rent are now permitted as long as they comply with strict Covid-19 Safe protocol. This is also set to change in the coming weeks.
WHO CAN ATTEND PRIVATE INSPECTIONS FOR BUYING IN MELBOURNE?
The agent hosting the inspection plus a maximum of 10 people from 2 different households.
CAN THE HOMEOWNER OR TENANT REMAIN AT THE HOME DURING THE INSPECTION?
No. The homeowner or tenant must leave the premises during the inspection.
CAN I TRAVEL MORE THAN 5KM FOR AN INSPECTION?
Now that the 5km rule has been dropped and now sits at 25km, freedom is a little easier to come by. However, with inspections for buying in Melbourne, you can travel more than this distance for a pre-arranged inspection. Importantly, though, travel between Metropolitan Melbourne and Regional Victoria is still prohibited until 11.59pm on Sunday 8th November 2020.

- Social distancing
- Face masks are compulsory
- Sanitise hands upon entry to the home
- Do not touch any surfaces within the home
- If you are feeling unwell, have been self-isolating or are under quarantine, DO NOT ATTEND AN INSPECTION
